Social Events July to September 2010 Saturday 3rd July - Robbie's of Warwick - Smith St, Warwick Info: One of my favourites in Warwick! Robbie's is a small and intimate restaurant at the bottom of Smith Street, conveniently located opposite the Roebuck. The menu is international but generally British-based, with a small but delicious selection of delicious courses, best enjoyed with some superb wine. I propose meeting at The Roebuck (bottom of Smith St) from 7:15pm for eating at 8pm. Please let me know by 26th June if you would like to join us. Organiser: Richard Gledhill bears@rgledhill.com Thursday 8th July - Go-Karting at Mr Karting, Harbury Lane, Bishops Tachbrook, near Leamington Date Change Info: Go-karting is GO! This will be on a Thursday evening from about 7:30pm for 8pm start, lasting a couple of hours. Depending on numbers, we could have a team race where everyone drives two sessions of around 15 minutes in teams of 4, or we could have a Grand Prix style system with qualifying and races to determine a full ranking! Cost would be likely to be around £35, which is good value by most karting venues standards. And, for those whove been before: theyve changed the track so nows your chance to tackle the new one! We need to reach a minimum of around 12 people so please let me know as soon as possible that you can come and then bookmark it in your calendar, otherwise I may have to cover the shortfall if some people dont turn up! Organiser: Richard Gledhill bears@rgledhill.com Saturday 10th July Bike Ride - Re-scheduled ! Start time: 11.30am. Allow approx 5 hours for the bike ride / pub stops / breakdowns! (But, like last time, hopefully we won't have any breakdowns!!) Start point: The White Lion pub car park, Radford Road, Radford Semele, CV31 1TE Info: A 30 mile (give or take a few miles!) bike ride mainly along quiet country lanes, canal paths and a short section of stoney track to the South of Radford Semele. We'll head down to Burton Dassett Country Park, passing by Long Ichington, Harbury and Bishop's Ichington on the way. Weather permitting, we'll have a pic-nic at the top of the hill at BDCP and soak up the fantastic views, so please bring your own snacks and drinks. On the way back, along a slightly different route, we'll stop at a pub or two and hopefully soak up some rays in the beer gardens! Please bring: drinks and snacks, YOUR OWN puncture repair kits / spare inner tubes (and enough money for a mini-bus taxi home, should you or your bike have an unrepairable incident!!), spare layers and waterproofs, cycle helmet, maybe some gloves, sun cream etc. Organiser: Kathryn Dalgleish (please confirm your attendance) **date change** Saturday 17th July - Eleven Restaurant - 11 Regent Place, Leamington Spa Info: Time to go back to Restaurant Eleven in Leamington again! Excellent service combined with marvellous French cuisine make this restaurant a delight. Prices are average for Warwick, meaning about £12-£15 for a main course, the menu for which includes Char-grilled Rump Steak, Roast Lamb and oven-cooked seabass. A superb wine list rounds it all off superbly! Meeting from 7:15pm at The Bowling Green, 18 New St, for a 2 minute walk to Eleven for 8pm. Please let me know by 8th July if you would like to join us. Organiser: Richard Gledhill bears@rgledhill.com Friday 6th August - Monthly pub social Info: 7:30pm at the Bowling Green Warwick. All existing/new/potential members are welcome Organiser: Jo Porter Friday 13th August Cortina Nights 60s 70s 80s Disco at the Assembly in Leamington Info: Meet in Tjs Bar and Grill, (45 Bath Street, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV31 3AG?) from 8:00 leave there at 9.15pm for the Assembly Cortina Nights, Entrance fee is £8 on the night, or £5 plus a fee in advance. Organiser: Keith Brickell Saturday 21st August Banbury to Hook Norton + Hook Norton Brewery Tour Info: This is an initial email to see if enough people would be interested in doing the following as it involves parting with money but should be good fun! I'd like to do a walk meeting at Banbury Station at 9.20am (there's a train from Leamington at 9am). We'd share taxis to Bodicote (couple quid ea max) and walk from there over a pretty, mostly field route to Hook Norton (about 10 miles). I've provisionally booked a brewery tour which starts at 2pm and costs £9.50 per person. Minimum 10 people needed. Tour takes 2 hours and looks really interesting AND you get a souvenir! Have a look at www.hooknortonbrewery.co.uk. After that we can go to the Sun Pub in Hooky which is a great, old Hook Norton Ale Pub, and from there share taxis back to Banbury (shouldn't cost more than a few quid each). If you would like to do the above, please contact Celia by FRIDAY 16 JULY. If there's enough people, I will need you to pay me for the tour beforehand as I'll have to pay the brewery. Please bear in mind the timings - I will recce the walk and decide if I can make the meet time any later, but whatever I decide, I'll have to be strict about leaving time from Banbury as it's going to be quite tight to get to Hook Norton by 2pm and we'll have to walk at a reasonable pace though it's not strenuous. Organiser: Celia Graham Saturday 4th September - Map Geek or Oxford Street chic (updated) Info: There has been a series of programmes about maps on BBC4 recently. I only caught a few of them but they were quite interesting. After talking to Neil on the recent weekend away in Yorkshire he said it was because there is an exhibition on at the British Library (http://www.bl.uk/magnificentmaps/) So I thought I would go and take a look and loosely organise a day out in London. Basically I will catch the 9.30 from Leamington on a standard return (£18) take a look at the (free) exhibition and then see where the mood / group takes me. The last train back is 10pm from Marylebone. Whoever comes can do what they please and we could arrange to meet up for dinner later and travel back together. It would be nice to get an idea if you would like to come but feel free to just turn up on the day! As a side note I may look at organising a walk later in the year near Hereford as the cathederal there contains the famous Mappa Mundi Update : I have found a Walking World walk (479) that is a tour of London's Royal Parks and passes by buck house and includes Oxford Street. It's 8 miles. I've never done a city walk before so depending on numbers and feeling of the group we could perhaps include this Organiser: Andrew Kennard Friday 10th September Meal at Piccolinos Italian Restaurant, Warwick Info: Meeting at the Roebuck Pub in Smith Street, Warwick at 7pm. Then on to Piccolinos (also on Smith Street, Warwick) at 8pm Please contact Jo Green if you're interested by 3rd September Organiser: Jo Green Look out for more details coming out on the email. If you would like to arrange a social evening, please email the group at: bearwalkinggroup@hotmail.co.uk To contact the social event organiser directly please email bearwalkinggroup@hotmail.co.uk with the event you are interested in/have questions on and we will pass them on. |
