Walks July - September 2006 Sunday 23rd July - The Rollright Stones, Cotswolds Grade: Moderate Info: 9 miles, walk along the Warwickshire - Oxfordshire border, following the ridge which houses the Rollright Stones, a group of Bronze Age remains. This is a hilly walk which climbs the rolling hills. Start Point: 10.30am layby to the north of Long Compton Leader: Paul Thornton Sunday 29th July Ilmington and Meon Hill Grade: Moderate Info: 10 / 12 miles hill walk encircling historic Meon Hill with its Iron Age hillfort Start Point: 10:30am- Tailor's Lane in Upper Quinton Leader:Will York Moore Sunday 6th August - Burford - Cotsworlds Grade: Medium Info: 7 mile walk from Burford heading towards Fulbrook and through farmland and woodland returning along the banks of the River Windrush. Start Point: 10.30 in Burford's carpark near the Tourist Information Centre (Grid Reference 249 122). I think this is a pay and display car park, so don't forget to bring some loose change. Leader: Jayne Clark Weekend Walking - Sat 19th - Monday 21st August Grade: Moderate/Hard Info: "two day" walk along the Pembrokeshire coast for something a bit different, Fishguard to St Davids. Approx plan is take a day off on Monday. Travel to St David's about 230 miles from Leamington on the Sat. possible little walk if we want to arrive early enough. Drive to Fishguard, walk 16.5 miles to Trefin (750m height gain over day)overnight accom at YHA Day 2 11 miles to St Davids (510m height gain).Bus to Fishguard to collect cars. travel home Monday night or stay in st davids If you are interested please contact Andrew by email a.kennard@btinternet.com Sunday 9th September Inkberrow and surrounding countryside Grade: Easy Info: 8 1/2 miles. The walk goes through an attractive bluebell wood and also visits two other delightful Worcestershire villages. Start Point:10.30am Inkberrow village green (GR015573), next to The Old Bull pub. Inkberrow is on the A422 Alcester to Worcester road. Parking on roadsides. Leader: Kate Westlake Sunday 24th September Stanton and Stanway - Cotswolds Grade: Easy Info: 11.5 miles, through picturesque villages of sandstone houses, exploring the almost Peak-like wilderness of the Cotswolds at their best Start Point:10.30am, Park in the Village Club car park in Stnaton. There may be a small fee. Leader:Steve Bick Nov 10 - 12 Navigation Training weekend, Derbyshire Peak District Do you sometimes find that you are not sure where you are going? Then you could be navigationally challenged! Come on this weekend being held at Eyam YHA and learn how to read a map and find your way. Max 12 places.
