Walks April - June 2009

Sunday 5th April - Stratford Upon Avon
Grade: M1 (explained here)
Info: A 10.5 mile walk starting from Stratford-upon-Avon. A gentle incline at the start leads to good views of the town. The walk will include open farmland and riverside walking.
Start Point:10am At the Recreation Ground by the Bandstand which is across the river from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. NOTE EARLIER START TIME OF 10am. The Car park at the recreation ground is fairly pricey (so an extra incentive to car share!). Alternatively free parking should be available around Welcombe Road area which is a few minutes walk from the start point or possibly at the small car park off Seven Meadows Road. Sunday 19th April - Stretton-on-Fosse
Grade: M1 (explained here)
Info: An 11 mile walk mainly n bridlepaths and across fields passing through the villages of Ebrington & Paxford with some gentle-ish hills in between rewarded with good views.

Sunday 26th April - Henley in Arden to Lowsonford
Grade: M1 (explained here)
Info: Easy 9 mile walk through what was ancient woodland over Beaudesert Castle, along the Heart of England way to Lowsonford, then back along the canal and easy tracks.

Sunday 10th May - Long Compton & Great Rollright
Grade: M2 (explained here)
Info: This 10 mile walk will take us through farmland along the Macmillan Way, D'Arcy Dalton Way and Shakespeare Way. We will pass by three lovely churches and three prehistoric monuments; known collectively as the "Rollright Stones", on the way round.

Sunday 17th May - Peak District
Grade: D2(explained here)
Info: A strenuous 12.5 mile walk around Peak District moorland, ridges and forest paths, with the occasional quiet road. The route passes Hanging Stone, Lud's Church, the Roaches and Hen's Cloud. Some steep climbs involved!
Start Point: Gradbach (OS ref: SJ996661), where there is designated parking. 10.30 start - please allow enough time to get there as it's about 1.5/2hrs drive from Leamington.

Sunday 31st May - Bubbenhall, Wappenbury, Hunningham and weston under Wetherley

Info: Easy 8 mile walk through a quite corner of Warwickshire, across fields and through small villages.

Sunday 7th June - Lickey Hills Country Park and surrounding countryside, Rednal (minor amendments)
Grade: E2 (explained here)
Info: This 8 mile walk will take us through Worcestershire countryside and then follow a trail around the perimeter of the Lickey Hills Country Park which has been owned by the City of Birmingham since 1888, covering an area of 524 acres since the Cadbury family donated more land in 1920. We will walk through woodland and over three hilltops where we will be able to see great views of Worcestershire, Warwickshire, and Birmingham city centre. There will be opportunities to buy ice creams and/or a potential pub stop on the way round.

Sunday 14th June - Weekend Away in the Lakes- Langdale

Info: Staying at Elterwater YHA, 2 hard days of Mountain walking over the Landgales and taking in Scar Fell. Limited places available, we will be staying at the YHA Friday and Saturday night. Please confirm an interested by end of April

Sunday 21st June - Eastern Black mountains

Info: Hard 14 mile walk over the Eastern Black Mountains at the end of the Breacon Beacons, taking in Twpna, Haybluff and Black Mountain, following along Offa's Dyke.

Sunday 28th June - Edstone Aqueduct Circular Walk
Grade: M1 (explained here)
Info: A 9.5 mile walk takes in part of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, Wilmcote Quarry (a Site of Special Scientific Interest), Wilmcote Village and the local countryside.
Start Point: 10:30am Mary Arden's House, Featherbed Lane, Wilmcote Village (3 miles north of Stratford-upon-Avon) Parking can be found in Wilmcote Village - please take care not to block driveways or park on verges. Click here for start point map
